Autism Spectrum Disorder
My son was diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder when he was around 3 years old. Here are some great resources that have been super helpful for him and our family on this special journey.
Autism Speaks – Autism Speaks is dedicated to promoting solutions, across the spectrum and throughout the life span, for the needs of individuals with autism and their families through advocacy and support; increasing understanding and acceptance of people with autism spectrum disorder; and advancing research into causes and better interventions for autism spectrum disorder and related conditions.
Nemechek Protocol for Autism and Developmental Disorders
The Nemechek Protocol is the most scientific approach in helping children with autism, ADD, ADHD and SPD show significant improvements in motor, sensory and speech delays using common and natural supplements. A prime component in Dr. Nemecheck’s protocol is the use of DHA found in fish oil and Nordic Naturals products are simply the best. For my son, we use the Children’s DHA Liquid but there are also other options available including gummies. I simply put a small amount on a spoon with a dollop of yogurt on top and because of the berry flavor of the oil, it is unnoticeable. DHA has been clinically proven to have numerous benefits for the brain and even if you aren’t following the Nemecheck Protocol it is still a great supplement form your child.

Visual Schedule Kit for Home
Visual Schedules are a must if you have a child with autism. They help with transitions, compliance and time management. This is a wonderful kit that includes everything you need to get started!
I create a lot of my own visual schedules as well. This inexpensive laminator has held up well over the last few years and heats up in just a few minutes.
