The Maxtrix Bed by Maxwood Furniture

I love watching my son grow up. It was only a few weeks before his fifth birthday when I came into his room and saw him sleeping on his tiny toddler bed, curled in such an adorable way. He’s growing so fast! And as he does that, it made me think about what sort of gift would be perfect for this time – a new big boy bed!

Armed with plans to create a sensory-friendly space underneath, I eagerly began the hunt for a solid-wood low loft bed. My son has Autism Spectrum Disorder, so creating a cozy space for him to self-regulate was important to me. Because he also as ADHD and can be can be rambunctious, I also needed to find a bed that would be sturdy as well as safe with features such as high guardrails and a staircase entry instead of a ladder.

I originally scoured online furniture retailers, looked at 100’s of beds, and read 1,000’s of reviews. It never failed; each time I’d find a bed that appeared ideal, I’d read grim reviews of missing pieces, poor customer service, or not very well-built. I was beginning to believe the perfect bed existed only in my imagination.

Because I was having zero success with online retailers, I began to search for local retailers. Finding a local retailer would allow me the opportunity to see the bed in person rather than rely on photos and customer reviews. I visited numerous local retailers and saw several beds, yet nothing had all the features I was looking for.

I again shifted my approach. Rather than researching online and local retailers, I began to research manufacturers. That’s when I hit the jackpot and found Maxwood Furniture.

Maxwood Furniture, founded in 2005 by Stephen Jensen and later joined by his wife, Anne, builds quality children’s furniture designed to be safe and functional. Their Maxtrix bed starts with what they call the Core System Bed. The Core System Bed can then be customized by adding features such as low loft, high loft, bunk, staircase, ladder, or a slide. Using quality hardwood, Maxtrix beds can withstand up to 800 pounds and feature 16” guardrails exceeding industry safety standards. In addition to its superior products, Maxwood also offers exemplary customer service.

My son loves his new bed! Each night our family snuggles underneath it in the cozy sensory space, which features fluffy floor pillows and soft lighting, and my husband reads our son’s current favorite bedtime story Green Eggs and Ham. After hugs and kisses, my son climbs the sturdy staircase up to his bed, where he sleeps peacefully and, most importantly, safely.

Thank you, Maxwood Furniture! In our world, even something as simple as a bed can make all the difference!
